上海古籍出版社《清代诗文集汇编》里的《白茅堂集》为燕京大学旧藏，圈点不少，批识止七处，一望而知非钱锺书先生所为。现存钱先生笔记里没有《白茅堂集》，论《白茅堂集》的第五百二十三则《容安馆日札》作于1955年10月，所札与圈点合同者只一处——卷二十六《读定山堂甲申存稿痛哭之馀起书二律》。眉批有云：“学杜以神不以貌，佳绝”（卷五）；日札则谓顾黄公“实则得力入手仍自七子”，《效杜甫乐府》“命意铸词皆与杜原诗无涉”。
